What does solar cost in Ireland in 2026?

About €2,500 + €500 per kWp + €250 per kWh of battery, after the SEAI grant. Got a quote? Put in four numbers to see how it compares.

Prices

Solar prices by system size

Prices after the SEAI grant, for new panels with value kit and no extras. Each figure comes from the same rule the check uses.

Solar panel prices in Ireland after the SEAI grant, Sept 2026
SystemNo battery5 kWh battery10 kWh battery
3 kWp*€4,200€5,450€6,700
4 kWp€4,500€5,750€7,000
6 kWp€5,500€6,750€8,000
8 kWp€6,500€7,750€9,000

* A 3 kWp system gets a €1,600 grant, not the full €1,800. So its prices include the €200 difference.

Extras add a fixed amount: EV charger (+€1,000), Ground-mount frame (+€2,500), Hot-water diverter (+€600), Changeover switch (+€500). Rule v1, published 28 September 2026.

How the rule works
The grant

The SEAI solar grant in 2026

The grant is up to €1,800. It is €700 per kWp for the first 2 kWp, then €200 per kWp from 2 to 4 kWp. A system of 4 kWp or more gets the full €1,800.

The grant pays for the panels only. It does not grow with a battery or a diverter. A battery fitted with the panels under the same contract gets 0% VAT. A battery added later does not.

To get it, the home must have been built and occupied before 2021, and the installer must be SEAI-registered. Get the grant offer before any work starts. You then have 8 months to finish the work, including a BER after the works.

Many quotes have the grant already off. Check which way a quote is priced before you compare it with another. More on the grant

Grant figures are for 2026. Budget 2027 on 6 October 2026 may change them, and we will date any change. A €600 battery grant is expected in Budget 2027 on 6 October 2026. It is not confirmed, and the rules and start date are not published.

Quotes

What makes a quote cheap or dear

Two quotes for the same size can be thousands apart. The usual reasons:

  • The kit. Premium all-in-one systems usually cost about €1,000 to €1,500 more than value kit for the same size.
  • The battery. Each kWh adds about €250, so a big battery moves the price a lot.
  • Extras, such as an EV charger, a diverter or a ground-mount frame.
  • The roof. A complex roof, scaffolding and long cable runs add cost.
  • What is left out. A cheap quote can have fewer panels, a basic inverter or no grant paperwork.

A price well under the rule deserves as many questions as one well over it. Line quotes up spec for spec: same kWp, same battery kWh, same kit tier. Can I trust a cheap solar quote?

Common questions about solar prices

What should solar panels actually cost in Ireland?

AskSolar's price check uses one published rule for value kit, after the SEAI grant: about €2,500, plus €500 per kWp of panels, plus €250 per kWh of battery. On that rule a 4 kWp panels-only system comes to about €4,500 after the grant, and 6 kWp with a 10 kWh battery about €8,000.

How much is the SEAI solar grant?

For 2026 the SEAI solar PV grant is up to €1,800. It's worked out as €700 per kWp for the first 2 kWp, plus €200 per kWp from 2 to 4 kWp, so it reaches the €1,800 maximum at 4 kWp. Most domestic systems are 4 kWp or larger and get the full amount; a 3 kWp system gets €1,600 (2 × €700 + 1 × €200).

Does the SEAI grant cover batteries, diverters and other extras?

The SEAI grant is for the solar PV panels themselves, not a blanket subsidy on every component. Batteries are not funded by the solar grant, but they do get 0% VAT when supplied and installed with the panels under the same contract, which is a meaningful saving in itself.

How many quotes should I get, and how do I compare them fairly?

Three quotes is the number that works — enough to triangulate a fair price without dragging the process out forever.
