The questions everyone actually asks

Grounded in our independent analysis of thousands of real Irish installs — not a sales script.

You
Homeowner
Is a battery actually worth it, or just an upsell?
A
AskSolar analysis
For most homes a battery adds €2,300–3,500and pays back slowly. Worth it if you're out all day or want backup — otherwise the analysis says start without one and add later.

What does a 6kW system realistically cost in Cork?
A
AskSolar analysis
Typical Cork installs land at €7,500–9,200after the grant for 6 kWp with no battery — around €8,150 is the most common. Get three quotes before you sign.

Homeowner · Galway
My roof faces north — is solar a waste of money?
A
AskSolar analysis
North-only is weak, but most roofs have an east or west pitch that works fine. An east-west roof typically knocks ~€1,100/yr off bills. Get a proper roof assessment first.

FAQ

The questions before the questions.

Plain answers. If something's still unclear, ask it and we'll answer from our analysis.

Most homes land between €7,500 and €9,200for a typical 6 kWp system after the SEAI grant — though it depends on your roof, system size and whether you add a battery. Our estimator gives you a realistic band in about a minute, with the grant already deducted.

For 2026 the SEAI solar PV grant is a flat €1,800. Your installer typically applies it so you pay the reduced amount — every figure on AskSolar is shown after the grant, so there are no surprises later.

For most Irish homes it's roughly 6–9 years, depending on your bills, roof aspect and whether you export to the grid. Homes on higher bills with south or east-west roofs tend to pay back fastest. The estimator shows your likely yearly saving.

You only share your details when youdecide to request quotes. Vetted installers who cover your area then quote for your roof. Installers pay a small per-lead fee for that introduction — you never pay, and we never push your number out to people you didn't choose.

You can use the estimator and read answers without giving any contact details. When you request quotes, your details go only to the specific installers you picked — never sold on, never handed to call centres. You can ask us to delete everything at any time.
